BIKLAW is eager to sponsor the coming generation of talent in the legal field by offering a $1,000 scholarship to any law school student or a student in a relevant, related field who exhibits outstanding promise and dedication.

 

Details

  1. Submissions will be in the form of a 500-1,000-word essay chosen from one of the topics below.
  2. BIKLAW staff will screen and select applications for the final winner.
  3. Essays will be assessed based on: contribution, originality, creativity, and overall writing quality.
  4. The deadline for submission is May 31, 2023.
  5. The winner will be notified by June 30, 2023.
  6. The winner is selected at the sole discretion of BIKLAW
  7. $1,000 scholarship will be awarded to one student.

 

Essay Topics

  1. Preventable medical errors are the third leading cause of death in the United States behind heart disease and cancer. How does that make you feel and what do you think should be done about it?
  2. How do you believe lawyers and doctors can work together to minimize errors in the healthcare industry?
  3. Acknowledging that there are both good doctors and bad doctors practicing medicine in this country, how do you feel about good doctors being sued for injuries that they did not cause, or bad doctors being sued for injuries that they did cause?
  4. In many states, there are “caps” on the financial compensation that can be recovered by victims of medical malpractice, even where a judge or jury issues a judgment that is higher than those “caps”? Do you believe this is fair or unfair and how do you believe that should be changed?

 

Application Process

  1. Please email your essay to [email protected] The subject line should read, “BIKLAW 2022-2023 Scholarship Application.”
  2. Include your name, school, major, email address, and phone number in the body of the email.
  3. Please submit an essay of up to 1,000 words in response to one of the referenced topics. Essays should be no shorter than 500 words (or two typed pages) and generally should not exceed 1,000 words (or four typed pages), however, submissions above those limits will not be penalized.
